Hermanus Koekkoek Jr. also known as J Van Couver and L. van Staaten was born in Amsterdam December 8, 1836, died London, and was buried June 4, 1909 in Den Haag (The Hague). He had lived and worked in Amsterdam, Nieuwer-Amstel 1859-1860, London 1863, then Amsterdam but left in 1869 for London again. He studied with his father Hermanus Koekkoek, and painted mainly seascapes; later, when living in London, he devoted himself to the art trade and when painting mostly used the alias of J. van Couver. Co-operated in Gelderland and in London with L. Schulman.
