Biography of Harry Jochmus ( 1855 - 1915, German )

Heinrich “Harry” Jochmus (28 April 1855, Harburg – 1915, Lüneburg) was a German painter.

The grandson of Philipp Wilhelm Jochmus (1765–1847), a senior administrator (Oberamtmann) in the Lüneburg district, Jochmus trained from 1875 to 1885 at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf. There, he studied in the master studio of Wilhelm Sohn and became a member of the Düsseldorf artists’ association Malkasten (Paintbox).

After completing his studies, he traveled extensively through Holland, France, and Italy. From 1886 to 1907, he worked in Munich before relocating to Lüneburg.

Jochmus regularly exhibited his works at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin and Munich’s Glaspalast (Glass Palace), cementing his reputation as an active participant in Germany’s 19th-century art scene.
