Wuttke studied from 1871 to 1873 at the Art Academy in Berlin, 1873 at Angelo II. Quaglio (1829-1890) in Munich and from 1877 to 1878 in Eugen Dücker in Dusseldorf. He went to Italy in 1874 on foot, where he remained until 1876, and also toured many later Italy, including Sardinia and Sicily, where many of his paintings were, also in 1880 and 1894 Andalusia Norway. Since 1885 he lived in Munich.

He attended unusual destinations, namely Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Sudan), Sinai and in 1893 the United States for German painter. 1897-99 he undertook a world tour that took him in 1898 to China and Japan. From the Far East, he delivered photos for Kaiser Wilhelm II., Which were suspended in the silver room of the Berlin City Palace.

His landscapes are often enlivened with genre scenes. In earlier years he devoted himself to playing fine lighting nuances, but also already developed a penchant for garish variegation, which later influenced his work more. His painting acts spontaneously and volatile, without being as the Secessionists left entirely to the task of form, which is why he is also expected to “vorimpressionistischen style”.
